I think there are several reasons to keep hammering away at this.  The 2004 campaign was nothing but personal smears, so a lot of Democrats are ****ed off.  Furthermore, there are still people who think the economy is strong, Palin has something between her ears and McCain DIDN'T support Bush's policies over 90% of the time.
