Frankie's girl campfire looks very real. I may have to do that to improve mine. I had bought 6 strings of flicker lights and attached each light ( they have clips ) to a ring of twigs. Looked pretty good. Wasn't a raging fire but gave a good enough effect:

The way to get a real looking fire with the flicker lights is to make sure the actual bulbs aren't visible, the reflected light on the wood pile and resulting glow and flicker is what makes it look real. The minute you have a bulb showing, it's pretty obvious. It took me longer to arrange the bulbs than it did to set up the fire ring, but it was worth the fussing. .

I'm messing with a circular fan with silk fabric zip tied to the outer perimiter of the round wire fan housing. Preliminary tests look real good. When I put a light in it I'll post s vid. It's rather large and when done people could theroetically walk all the way around it and still have it look like flames. Even close up the flames look good as the fan is very powerful and the fabric whips like...
