UPDATED Mon Sep 8 2008 09:27:40 Hi, i'm just wondering which Westerns are most historically accurate concerning the lives and actions of these outlaws? I realize there may not be an exact fit here but which films do you feel get the closest to an honest and true depiction of their psychological make up as well as their exploits, personal life, public persona etc? Of course I...

The Gunfighter isn't about Johnny Ringo. The character in the film just shares the same last name. I've seen a few of the James gang films and the best one by far is The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford, although it doesn't deal with the Youngers etc. The Long Riders is okay and is worth watching for the Northfield shootout scene alone, but nothing really ...

The Gunfighter isn't about Johnny Ringo. The character in the film just shares the same last name. I really should have cross checked that before posting. Thanks for the clarification. Haven't seen The Long Riders , thanks for the mention. I've seen Pat Garret & Billy the Kid , i'd need a re-watch to determine my exact feelings on it at present, it's been a while. I ...

The real starting point for the post Civil War outlaw gangs was Quantrill's Raiders, a lethal band of Confederate guerrillas most famous for the destruction of Lawrence, Kansas in 1863. Frank and Jesse James and most of the Younger boys rode with Quantrill, and the Daltons, a later band, were related to the Youngers. Ang Lee's "Ride With The Devil", which I have praised before on ...

UPDATED Tue Sep 9 2008 05:09:47 About The Daltons: I always liked The last Day with Richard Widmark but I don't know how accurate this one really is: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073267/ About Jesse James: Maybe The Assasination Of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. I'm not a fan of this Movie but it seems to be accurate. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443680/ ...

Well as far a a snaphot depiction of the end of the James-Younger Gang I think "The Long Riders" depicts the debacle at Northfield very well, its a bit more accurate than "The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid" The other films about the James boys, of course "The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford" is very accurate in portrayal of the waning years of Jesse James & more...

There are a lot of movies no one has mentioned, so I will give them a shot. Billy the Kid (1930) Johnny Mack Brown - decent movie, but low on historical accuracy. Based on the book by Walter Noble Burns, which is better than the movie. Billy the Kid (1941) Robert Taylor. Based on the same book, but miles farther away in historical accuracy. Still not a bad movie. The Outlaw (...

"Return of the Badmen" for example is a wonderful romp as Ray Enwright films tend to be, and boasts Randolph Scott and Robert Ryan, two of the greatest of Western actors. But it brings together the Youngers, the Daltons, The Sundance Kid and Billy The Kid none of whom ever rode together, under the leadership of Wild Bill Doolin, the leader of the Dalton gang after the Daltons were ...
If Jesus was nailed through the wrists, as would be... If Jesus was nailed through the wrists, as would be historically accurate, why do TV/Movies always show the palm stigmata version. Cooler?
